Welcome to the May 30th Edition of the Green It! Carnival! Once again we received an exceptional number of submissions. There are never enough minutes in the day, so I have weeded through each and every submission to make sure that I only publish the best posts that will provide Green It! readers with top notch information on going green.
As carnival host I like to call out exceptional submissions at the beginning. As you already know, I am a huge fan of Farmer’s Markets and this post from Valereee titled How to shop at a farmers’ market posted at Cincinnati Locavore is both superbly written and wonderfully thorough. Many Farmer’s Markets are open on Saturday morning, so if you only read one post from this carnival tonight — make sure to read this one!
Green Experience
Lisa presents a clever article on Covert Urban Composting posted at Condo Blues. What better use for the old plastic trash can you’ve stashed in storage?
Jackie shares with us just how easy it is to make your own Homemade Baby Food posted at Tiny Décor Blog. Jackie is also behind a great new eco nursery furniture line, so be sure to check out her store which opens online in June!
Jessica shares wonderful green spa recipes and her experience connecting with her daughter through Celebrating Womanhood posted at Practical Nourishment.
Melanie presents Broody Hen posted at Bean Sprouts, saying, “Keeping backyard chickens is a great way to reduce your food miles and costs, but it’s not without its own challenges.” Did you know many towns and cities in the US have ordinances allowing you to raise your own poultry? Even in New York City?
Green Challenges
When it comes to alternatives to toxic cleaning products many folks have heard about using baking soda, vinegar and lemon juice instead. However, it is one thing to know something and another to actually take action! After reading Rosemary’s post Going Green With Products Right From Your Kitchen posted at Her Home Blog you will be set to put your toxic cleaners aside and clean your home naturally and safely!
Shannon presents Aluminum Vs Glass Beer Bottles: The New Paper Vs Plastic? posted at Zeer Blog. As with paper and plastic, the answer is not crystal clear, but Shannon does come to some interesting conclusions and links to a neat spreadsheet if you are industrious enough to run the numbers yourself!
Autumn presents Fabric Softener on Cloth Diapers *gasp* posted at All About Cloth Diapers. Autumn teases us with the hint: “What once was a big no-no with cloth diapers is now a “go ahead, but…” Hmm. Personally, I think I’ll stick with vinegar, but if you cloth diaper and give this a go, let me know how it works!
Green Tips
If you have yet to green your garden R.Pettinger presents some practical and simple tips in How To Make Your Garden Eco Friendly. posted at The Compost Heap.

If you get a new cell phone or other electronic gadget, please look into recycling options and keep toxic chemicals and unnecessary waste out of the landfill!
Todd shares a neat way to save on energy costs with a Solar Box Window Heater posted at Helpful Advice for Home Construction Improvement. A proficient do-it-yourself kind of guy and construction expert, Todd also has other ideas for Greening your home on his site.

Making More of Living with Less!
NtJS presents Everyday Frugal: In The Garden posted at not the jet set, saying, “Green gardening with Mrs. NtJS. 12 tips to keep your veggies growing and your wallet fat.”
I must admit that the first time Zork submitted a post to this carnival I thought “what the heck?” Nonetheless over time the alien has grown on me. This week Zork presents Zork Green Tip 10 - Top 10 Green Date Tips posted at It’s the Planet, Didiot!. Zork says: “Earthlings, have fun and be green at the same time. Make all of your dates green dates.” Don’t skip this read if you are already attached, as Zork’s suggestions would make for a romantic first date or 50th anniversary!
Suzanne presents Eco Kids Birthday Party posted at Mommyfootprint.com. There are a handful of online resources that show how to host an Eco Birthday Party; however, Suzanne not only gives you green party ideas, but also demonstrates how to instill in your munchkin living with less!
