Your post, particularly your frustration at feeling you were making many sacrifices while others were not, got me thinking about how important it is to be public with green choices. It is hard to be "that one" sometimes but I've been working to be more vocal about our decisions. (Like many bloggers, I'm on the shy side.)

I've been pleasantly surprised at how many people are quietly making changes. It is so heartening for me and, I hope, for them as well to see that these activities are more common than I would have known. Thanks for helping me to see that going public is an important goal in its own right.

How fortunate you were to have grown up in such a green conscious family. Although my parents weren't totally green, my mom had a streak of *hippie* in her. Between that and growing up in Southern California, I had a hint of tree hugging in me from the very start. It took me a while to get to the place I am now. Although, like you did on your journey, I sometimes backslide as at times I feel that my efforts are futile. But then I get back on the path and continue on.

What a wonderful story - thank you so much for taking part in Erin's carnival. I entered for the first time this month too.

Your journey is awesome and I love how you were 'outed' despite your otherwise intentions. LOL!

It's the foundation and the core of your essence which shines through, no matter how hard you try to cover it up.

I was called a 'hippy' in my teens and I really was a beer swilling, gas guzzling, take out eating, rubbish producing regular teenager, but perhaps someone saw something deep inside that even I wasn't aware of at that point :)

You have a great energy; optimistic and upbeat which is wonderful to be a part of - thank you so much for sharing your story!

@Nicole -- Interesting is the polite way to put it! Some might just call it plain weird ;)

@Jen -- My tree is hugging your tree to the moon and back!

@Erin -- New sap is vital! My eyes have been opened so much in the last few years from reading blogs such as yours. I love it when folks analyze the nitty gritty and challenge us to question different actions. For example, I may have ridden my bike miles, but until Crunchy's Freezer Yer Bunz challenge last year I used to keep my winter Thermostat at 68F or above, but now I freeze my bunz too!

You have such an interesting story! Thank you for sharing it.

I struggle with the opposite from you - I worry that I'm "not green enough" bc I don't do anything 100%. For instance we do eat meat, so I exclude ourselves from the vegie/vegan category...but really we eat meat a few times a week and eat veggie or vegan much of the time. We also cloth diaper only part time, walk as much as we can but own a van.... It sounds like you've found a good balance!
